Tara

Tara, meaning "Star" or "Saviour," is a revered deity in various branches of Tantra, particularly in Tibetan Buddhism. She is considered an embodiment of enlightened feminine energy, embodying qualities such as compassion, wisdom, and swift action.

Tara is depicted in a vibrant green or white hue, radiating with divine light. She is often depicted with one leg extended, representing her readiness to leap into action to aid those in need. Her eyes are said to radiate with boundless compassion, gazing upon all sentient beings with love and understanding.

Legend has it that Tara was born from a single tear shed by the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, the embodiment of compassion. The tear fell to the ground and transformed into a beautiful lotus, from which Tara emerged fully awakened. She vowed to assist all beings in their journey towards liberation and enlightenment.

Tara's compassionate nature is symbolised by her offering of the gesture of fearlessness (abhaya mudra) with her right hand and the granting of boons (varada mudra) with her left hand. She is known as the swift and compassionate saviour, ever ready to alleviate suffering and guide seekers on their spiritual path.

Devotees of Tara seek her blessings for various reasons, including protection, healing, wisdom, and spiritual growth. Her mantra, "Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha," is chanted by practitioners to invoke her compassionate presence and connect with her enlightened energy.

Tara's practice is characterised by meditation, visualisation, and recitation of her mantra. Through these practices, practitioners seek to cultivate compassion, develop inner strength, and cultivate a deep connection with the divine feminine.

Tara's boundless compassion extends to all beings, regardless of gender, race, or background. She reminds us of the inherent divinity within ourselves and the interconnectedness of all life. Her teachings emphasise the importance of love, kindness, and selfless service as pathways to liberation and spiritual awakening.

As devotees immerse themselves in the grace of Tara, they are inspired to embody her compassionate qualities in their own lives. They strive to alleviate suffering, promote harmony, and cultivate a deep sense of empathy for all beings.

Tara's presence in the tantric tradition serves as a beacon of hope, reminding us of the inherent potential for awakening and liberation that resides within each of us. Her compassionate embrace illuminates the path to enlightenment and guides us towards the realisation of our true nature.

In the realm of Tantra, Tara stands as a radiant symbol of love, compassion, and spiritual liberation. Through her grace, seekers are encouraged to embrace their inherent divinity and embark on a transformative journey towards awakening and self-realisation.
